WNCE2001 to WN2500RP

August 13th, 2012 Comments off

For a couple of years I’ve been using a Netgear WNCE2001 in my living room to connect my TIVO and WDTV Hub. The WNCE2001 is a “Universal WiFi Internet Adapter” which pretty much lets you turn something with a wired network connection into wireless. In my case I hung a 4 port switch off of it and hooked up multiple devices. I had read different articles about people saying this would work with multiple devices and some saying it would not. It worked fine for me and allowed the devices to get DHCP addresses and everything seemed fine most of the time. My main problem I had with it is a few times (two or three) over a couple of years, it would just forget it’s settings or something. It would just stop working and I would have to get it down and hook it up directly to my laptop and default the settings and reset it up. This time I couldn’t get it back working so I ended up getting a Netgear WN2500RP which is a Universal Dual Band WiFi Range Extender with a 4-port WiFi Adapter so no need for a separate switch. This thing has a signal meter on the front so you can easily see the signal strength for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The WPS Push N Connect made it about the easiest way possible to hook it up. It took about 5 minutes to hook it up and have it ready to use. So far it seems like a much better way to extend a wireless network to wired devices.

Karen’s Directory Printer

I’ve needed to do this a number of times over the years for different reasons like listing music, movies, or pictures and have tried a few different things. Karen’s Directory Printer can print the name of every file on a drive, along with the file’s size, date and time of last modification, and attributes like Read-Only, Hidden, System and Archive. You can even sort the list by name, size, date created, date last modified, or date of last access. It’s certainly worth a try.

Andmade Share

August 5th, 2012 Comments off

I finally got tired enough of having to go through my list of apps to share a link on my Android phone. I found this app the other day and it allows you to do away with some apps in that list and it allows you to reorder the apps in the list. Here is more info in this Lifehacker.com article.

Google Wallet

August 1st, 2012 Comments off

Well, I do tend to be a Google fan from time to time but I’m not sure what I think about this for now. I’m not too sure if Google, wallet, credit cards, and cloud should be all in the same sentence! What do you think? Are you ready to pay for things with your cell phone? I know it’s coming and inevitable but I’m not too sure the ‘Cloud’ is ready for credit card transactions. Read more about the direciton Google Wallet is going in their recent blog post. Check it out here.
